The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) recently concluded that the average wait time for a taxpayer's call to be answered during tax season was 24.6 minutes. This was up significantly from the prior tax season, which saw an average wait time of 11.7 minutes. There is no clear explanation why wait times increased so much, but this can very frustrating for taxpayer's, many who are already nervous over filing taxes.
